in the Community - 2011

Our cooperative has a long history of giving back to the communities we serve through contributions of both time and money.  From donating over $30,000 annually to educational scholarship for local students to sponsoring major events such as the Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival, we remain committed to improving the lives of those we serve and the communities we call home.  Check the news & events section to see our most recent activity.

Donations - 2011

Chief Bemidji Statue Project
Paul Bunyan Communications recently made a donation to the Chief Bemidji Statue Project. This public art project which supports the vision of creating a new, high quality bronze statue of Shaynowishkung, a statue that will depict him in a realistic, dignified and respectful manner and that will honor him and the Anishinaabe people of our region. The statue will be located in the redeveloped Library Park area. Annual Meeting & Cooperative Celebration Held May 25th

2011 Coop Celebration & Annual MeetingA crowd of over 7,000 attended the Paul Bunyan Communications Annual Cooperative Celebration on Wednesday, May 25 at the Paul Bunyan Communications Headquarters in Bemidji, making the event another great success!

The 55th Annual Business Meeting of Paul Bunyan Rural Telephone Cooperative was held prior to the Open House at 3:30 p.m. The meeting included reports for the 2010 fiscal year and re-election of board directors Kathy Peterson, District 3 and Jim Sutton, District 8.

2011 Coop Celebration & Annual MeetingThe Cooperative Celebration was open to the public and featured a free walleye dinner prepared by the Bemidji Fire Department Fish Fry Crew and Lueken’s Village Foods, door prizes, kids’ activities like face painting, balloons, temporary tattoos, storytelling, animals and entertainment from the Headwaters Science Center, United States Tennis Association’s Quickstart Tennis, Concordia Language Villages, and special guests including Dora the Explorer and Cat in the Hat. The Irish cover band GROCK from Grand Rapids provided the musical entertainment.

We would also like to thank the Bemidji Fire Department, Lueken’s Village Foods, The Party Store, Lakeland Public Television, Minnesota State Patrol, Bemidji Police Department, Paul Bunyan Transit, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Headwater’s Science Center, Port-Able John, Bemidji Citizen’s Patrol, USTA North/Bemidji Tennis Association, Boy Scouts, Concordia Language Villages, North Air Care Helicopter, and Raphael’s Bakery for all their help.

NASCAR’s Kenny Wallace Draws Big Crowd at Paul Bunyan Communications in Grand Rapids

NASCAR’s Kenny Wallace at the Paul Bunyan Communications office in Grand RapidsNASCAR’s Kenny Wallace drew a big crowd at the Paul Bunyan Communications office in Grand Rapids on July 28!

Those who stopped by had the opportunity to get their picture taken with the longtime NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, pick up a free gift from Paul Bunyan Communications, and enjoy a free slice of pizza and a pop from Rafferty’s Pizza. KOZY/KMFY was also broadcasting live from the event.

Then a packed house watched Kenny in action at the Tom Clusiau Grand Rapids Speedway that night as part of NASCAR Night at the track.

Over 300 kids turn out in Grand Rapids to see Super Why and Wonder Red courtesy of Paul Bunyan Communications

PBS's Super Why and Wonder RedOver 300 kids turned out at Tall Timber Days in Grand Rapids on Saturday, August 6th to see PBS's Super Why and Wonder Red. Many brought cameras to have their picture taken and all the kids who attended received a free Paul Bunyan Communications water bottle while all the adults received a Paul Bunyan Communications stadium blanket. It was a memorable time for all and Paul Bunyan Communications was proud to be a part of the 30th Annual Tall Timber Days Celebration!

Thousands turn out for the 6th Annual Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival

6th Annual Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat FestivalA record number of teams participated in the 6th Annual Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival August 4-6 and thousands of spectators lined the waterfront to watch the action! Congratulations to the River City Dragons, the first team from Canada to claim the Gold Division title and also to the Paul Bunyan Communications Smooth Operators who finished 48th out of a record field of 75 teams.

Paul Bunyan Communications and PBTV are proud to be sponsors of this event from its inception and we look forward to next year's Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival August 2-4, 2012.

Paul Bunyan Communications brought PBS's Cookie Monster to the Blackduck Backwoods Bash at the Blackduck Wayside Rest. Hundreds of kids showed up to have their picture taken with Cookie Monster plus get a water bottle from Paul Bunyan Communications.

Paul Bunyan Communications is proud to support such a wonderful and fun community event!
